A rainbow day and my hexagon quilt progress
by favouriteworkofart
It was a ‘rainbow day’ here yesterday, when the world seems to flash all its colours at you and all you can do is stand back and admire (and take lots of photos!)…
Yesterday was also the day I finished sewing the last of the coloured hexagons for the Grandmother’s Garden Hexagon Quilt that I’m making, for my daughter, as part of Mel’s Hex-along. Yep, I’ve cut and paper pieced 484 coloured hexagons in a little over three weeks! Go me! I’ve also cut out 364 hexagons from white fabric and have paper pieced 120 of them. Go me! I’ve also sewn together 8 of the 20 large hexagon flowers! I’m well on the way to finishing all the flowers by the end of March. I love it when a plan comes together! Don’t all the colours look delicious together (darn you, dark photo!)…..
This all means, however, that I still have to: sew 12 of the large flowers together (each with 19 hexagons); sew 12 of the small flowers together (each with 7 hexagons); paper piece the remaining 589 white hexagons; and then – bear with me as I take a deep breath – sew all of the 709 white hexagons and the coloured flowers together (for the full quilt top with a total of 1179 hexagons).
What are you betting I can get it all done by my birthday in mid-July? If I don’t pressure myself to get it done, I know it’ll end up in my enormous and ever-expanding pile of ‘Unfinished Craft Projects’…..

I think you’ll get it done
It is looking gorgeous and when it’s finished it will surely repay all the “work” with years of pleasure
How lovely are these! Both the photos and the quilt ‘flowers’ – what a beautiful legacy …
Wooah! You’re putting me to shame…you’ve done SO many! Looking fabulous. xx
